Samsung introduces “The Wall” again and “The Window”

No Rahul Dravid is not coming out of retirement to play for India nor is Samsung funding Trump's wall and this window has nothing to do with Microsoft. It is the lineup of micro LED TVs introduced by Samsung at the CES 2019.

The Wall

“The Wall” is a huge 219-inch TV that has Samsung’s Micro LED technology. They had earlier released a 146-inch TV last year. “The Wall” is said to feature an unknown resolution that is higher than 4K with 2000 nits brightness. it has modular panels and can be setup in any shape or size as per the consumers requirements of viewing and space. It also has a customizable user experience that allows it to be used as a feature wall when it is off. One can choose a any image of choice that best suits their taste, style or simply matches the interior. It can also be controlled using a special tablet.

The Window

“The Window” meanwhile is a consumer friendly 75-inch prototype Ultra-HD Micro LED TV featuring 4K resolution and a peak brightness of 1000 nits. The peak brightness will apparently be increased to 4000 nits at launch.

MicroLED

What are Micro LEDs?

Micro LEDs use tens of millions of individually controlled tiny/micro LEDs as the name suggests. It does not require back-lighting, hence can offer a very high contrast ratio. The technology hopes to be free of the issues of OLEDs such as ghosting, burn-in, etc. while retaining the advantages such as high contrast, brightness, deep inky blacks. The advantage and the thing that I loved the most is that these Micro LED screens do not need any bezels and can be made incredibly thin. This means that we would be looking at super bright bezel-less displays with deep inky blacks in various sizes. Hope to see more of it in the consumer market soon.
